GOLDEN THREADS COLLECTIVE

Our
Story
Get to Know Us
Golden Threads began with a simple realisation.
When Caron’s father came to live with her, she began hearing more of the stories from his life, memories of childhood, work, friendships, and the moments that shaped who he became. Many of them she had never heard before.
At the same time, something else became clear. These stories existed only in conversation. They had never been written down, and it became apparent how easily they could disappear if no one took the time to capture them.
So together we began recording his memories and slowly shaping them into a written life story.
As the process unfolded, it became clear how meaningful it was, not just for him, but for the whole family. The conversations themselves became valuable. They created space to reflect, remember and connect.
Through this experience, we also began to see a much bigger gap. Many older people carry extraordinary life stories, yet they often don’t have regular opportunities to share them, or someone who knows how to listen for the deeper story.
Golden Threads grew from that realisation.
Today our work includes both Life Stories, where we preserve a person’s memories in a written life story book, and Wellbeing Partners, where carefully matched companions spend time with older people through conversation, shared activities and connection.
Both are built around the same belief: that every life holds stories worth hearing and relationships worth nurturing.
Introducing Life Stories

Preserving the Stories That Shape a Family
Every family has stories that hold it together. The stories told around dinner tables, remembered in fragments, or shared in passing that somehow explain who we are and where we come from.
Too often those stories disappear. We assume we will remember them, or that there will always be time to ask another question. But memories fade, details are lost, and one day we realise that a lifetime of experiences was never fully captured.
Life Stories was created to change that.
At Golden Threads we help families record, shape and preserve the life stories of the people who matter most to them. Through thoughtful conversations and careful storytelling, we turn memories into a beautifully written family legacy book that can be shared for generations.
Our Approach
This is not simply a transcription of an interview. It is a careful process of listening, shaping and preserving a life story in the speaker’s own voice.
Our aim is to create something that feels authentic, personal and deeply human, a story that reads naturally and captures the personality, humour and wisdom of the person at its centre.

The Process
1. Gentle Conversations
We begin with a series of relaxed conversations, usually three to five sessions, either in person or online. These are not formal interviews. They are guided conversations designed to help memories surface naturally.
We explore childhood, family roots, work, relationships, turning points, challenges and the moments that shaped a life.
Often these conversations bring back memories that haven’t been thought about for years.
2. Crafting the Story
After each conversation, we carefully shape the material into a written narrative. The story is written in the speaker’s own voice, preserving their way of speaking and remembering.
The goal is not to rewrite someone’s life, but to capture it as truthfully and beautifully as possible.
There is an opportunity to review each section, add forgotten memories, and correct details before the story moves forward.
3. Gathering the Memories
Photographs, letters, recipes, family anecdotes and personal memories add richness to the story.
Where families wish, we can include:
-
family photographs throughout the book
-
handwritten recipes or favourite dishes
-
short reflections or messages from children and grandchildren
-
family trees or lineage notes
-
important documents or memorabilia
These elements help bring the story to life and turn the book into a true family keepsake.
4. Designing the Legacy Book
Once the story is complete, we design the final book. Photographs are carefully integrated with the narrative so the story flows naturally.
The final result is a beautifully structured life story that feels both personal and timeless, something that can be shared within the family and preserved for future generations.
Families receive a digital book, with the option to print copies for children, grandchildren and extended family.

What Families Often Say
Many families tell us the same thing after the process is complete:
they discovered stories they had never heard before.
Sometimes it is a childhood memory, a quiet act of courage, or a small moment that suddenly explains something about the person they thought they knew so well.
These stories are often the threads that connect generations.
A Gift for the Future. A Life Story is not only a record of the past.
It is a gift to the future.
It allows children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to know the person behind the photographs and to understand the life that shaped their own.
At Golden Threads we believe every life holds stories worth preserving.
What Families Receive
At the end of the process, families receive a carefully written digital life story that captures the voice, memories and character of the person at its centre.
The story is shaped into a beautifully structured narrative, with chapters that move through the different stages of a life: childhood, family, work, relationships, challenges and the moments that shaped who someone became.
Where families wish, photographs are woven throughout the story, alongside personal touches such as favourite recipes, reflections from children or grandchildren, or small details that bring memories to life.
The final result is a thoughtfully designed life story book that feels both personal and timeless, something that can be shared with family today and preserved for future generations.
Families receive a digital edition of the book, with the option to print copies for children, grandchildren and extended family.

Golden Gatherings
Golden Gatherings will be our way of bringing people together in small, meaningful community spaces. These events will offer room for reflection, creativity and connection.
We’re building Golden Gatherings slowly and intentionally. This page will grow as we finalise the format, dates and themes. For now, we’re holding the space, and looking forward to introducing Golden Gatherings when the time is right.
Meet The Team
Behind Golden Threads Collective is a team who truly values people and the stories they carry. We spend our time listening, documenting memories and offering meaningful companionship to older adults and their families.
Our work is about more than capturing stories. It is about creating moments of connection, preserving wisdom, and ensuring that the voices of those we love are never lost.
